Pilates (pronounced pi-lah-teez) is an exercise technique used by dancers since the early 1920's. Joseph Pilates, born in Germany in 1880, combined elements of yoga, weight training, gymnastics and ancient practices to overcome his own disabilities. This conditioning program improves posture, flexibility, coordination, muscle tone, and strength.
