HEADACHE MANAGEMENT

The head and neck region is vulnerable to many different stresses. The muscles, joints, and nerves of the neck can impact and contribute to headaches. True migraine headaches are most likely the result of problems affecting the blood vessels in the head. However, many other types of headaches can mimic migraines. In the absence of a true migraine, a physical therapist can help diagnose the actual source and cause of the pain. The physical therapist will first complete a full evaluation, assessing the range of motion and function of muscles, joints and nerves. After pinpointing the problem, he or she will design a program of rest, exercise, stretching, and other treatments that are very effective in eliminating the cause of headaches.

Eastern Rehabilitation Network developed its headache management program to assist patients with active self-management tools for headache and neck pain.
